E51: Fireworks & Public Notes
Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, casual fashion, and travel when possible. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, continue with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.
Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update. Since episode 50, we did two things :
First, we attended our installations’ Fourth of July celebration, and enjoyed it all! We weren’t sure what to expect, but there were plenty of people, food, beverages, dogs, live music, and active duty defenders as security. Lockheed Martin sponsored the fireworks, and it was great! Kid Jupiter stayed up ‘til 10pm, and it was worth it to watch him play with glow sticks.
The neighborhood fireworks were less fun because the dogs were stressed, and the fireworks were really close to our house. And yes – they were illegal because we clearly live within city limits. I just hope that none of our neighbors had PTSD episodes because now I know what central Iraq sounded like.
And second, Mister Jupiter and I were able to divide and conquer to celebrate a friend’s Change of Command ceremony. I went to the pre-ceremony pizza and wine party, then Mister Jupiter went to the actual ceremony – we just took turn being solo parents for Kid Jupiter and it worked out just right.
For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…
I have updated this season’s outfits of the day post, and published two new Public Notes.
One is about shopping for a sidecar because (surprise!) I’ve been spending a lot of time researching ebike-compatible sidecars. So if you’re remotely interested I wrote over a thousand words about what I was looking for, what I found, and how I picked a sidecar for our family to use for at least 10 years. It was just shy of $3,000 American dollars, and will take almost three months for me to receive. It’s custom-made fiberglass, handcrafted in Denmark. It weighs just under 30lbs and carries 100 [American pounds]. I suspect that we may be the only ones in central Arkansas with this sidecar, so I asked the California dealer to send me business cards so we can start a movement. As soon as I get it, you’ll see Kid Jupiter and I riding around base in the late mornings. I need to get the hang of loading and unloading a folding bike and the sidecar without Mister Jupiter, so I’m going to get my practice in a gated community with lower speed limits and many parking lots. I really look forward to being able to use the bike and sidecar to grab Mister Jupiter some food court lunch, then drop it off and watch some planes takeoff with Kid Jupiter. And speaking of bikes…
The second public note that I published was an ebike comparison between my personal bike, and Mister Jupiter’s personal bike. I wasn’t sure if I would write one in the first place, because I didn’t want to give the impression that I CAN compare a lot of bikes, but I have read a lot of questions from people who are trying to decide between the two models that we actually have. So not only are people asking specifically about my RadCity ST3 and Mister’s RadRunner+, but I also really enjoy each bike for their differences.
I will definitely I have links in the show notes, but the long story short is that the CityST is silent, it feels like a normal mountain bike, but it has regenerative braking that is amazing if you ride hills. Mister Jupiter’s Runner+ feels like a moped, his geared hub motor is audible, but it isn’t bothersome, and the built-in passenger package will be perfect for Kid Jupiter when he’s bigger.

And now for my most recent domestic diversion
I am proud to announce that the laundry has been folded. Repeat the laundry has been folded. Now it’s not entirely put away, but the dryer is clear. So that’s pretty good.
You probably noticed that I did not release an episode last week, that was because kid Jupiter didn’t have any play dates, so I didn’t have the dedicated recording time that I am getting used to. I even tried to record in the house just like old times, but I ran into the same issue that halted the podcast in the first place. Meaning that I kept bumping the podcast lower on my priority list because I was at home and needed the time instead to cook, clean, shower, and tend to all the little things that I cannot do from my car.
