E28: Kombucha Revival & Tsubo Searches
Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, home stuff, my low maintenance beauty and fashion, and travel when possible. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
Today I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, continue with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.
Today in our military affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
We’re still waiting to find out when Mister Jupiter promotes. It’s coming up either on the first of next month…or the next next month…or the next next next month. We’re not planning anything special, it’s impossible to plan around the unknown, but I wish we had a shred of information because not knowing is annoying.
And for a little behind the scenes peek – I decided to give my Picks of the Week posts their own clickable category on the blog, so I went though those posts to make sure they were categorized as such.
📌 Picks of the Week
And now for my most recent domestic diversion
I’m bringing my current kombucha SCOBY back to life! I sampled my kombucha about seven or eight days after feeding a new SCOBY, but the brew tasted like tea…not vinegary effervescent kombucha. I checked my notes and didn’t realize that I accidentally used TWO flavored teas, so it’s a miracle that I got a new skinny SCOBY in the first place. So after I realized my faux pas, I added the right tea to my continuous brew jug. I think I got it just in time and have a new-new SCOBY growing on the surface, this one already has air bubbles keeping it elevated. It’s almost been a week since I re-fed the SCOBY, so it’s not ready to sample, but I can plainly see that it’s happier now. I have also bought a new box of organic English Breakfast black tea so I don’t make the same mistake again.

Kombucha aside, I’m buying things that I mostly don’t need while not carving out the time to sort and donate various goods. Maybe today is the day that I will load my car with recyclables and donations. Earlier I bought some shoes – second hand Tsubo brand booties because I didn’t know that Tsubo (spelled T-S-U-B-O) was gone. I love Tsubo because their women’s shoes have actual rubber soles…for all styles – sneakers, loafers, high heels. Why can’t all high heels have traction? Why do most loafers only have heel traction, and super slippery toes?! This is why I love Japanese-rooted Tsubo. They know that women don’t want to break their ankles, so they provide the basic traction required to easily walk on all surfaces.
Right now I have one pair of Tsubo loafers and I love them. They are simple, comfortable, and fit me like a glove. I tried to buy a new pair of Tsubo shoes, but that’s when I realized that the company has apparently gone belly up. So I immediately pulled out my wallet for the booties I was looking at. Now that I know these shoes are a commodity I will treat them as such, and buy the styles I like as soon as I see them (and can envision at least one outfit with them).
I am used to this kind of causal searching and buying. I have two other unicorn pieces that I seek. One is a cropped funnel-neck leather jacket (I have an ivory variant, but want the black), and a bracelet that I once rented and foolishly didn’t buy when I had the chance. So now I wait for those search alerts to populate my email inbox, and occasionally search resale sites for these items (via broad searches, and misspellings). So it’s not unreasonable to add Tsubo shoes to my unicorn search queries. Luckily I don’t have my eyes on a particular color or style, so that makes it much easier to find what I like. I could go for some teal loafers, but I’ve lived this long without any, so I can wait longer.
And that’s it for today’s show!
