Episode Fourteen: Office Hours & Biohacking
Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, also travel, home stuff, and my low maintenance beauty and fashion. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
Today I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the military, follow on with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.
Today in our military affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
I volunteer with Mister Jupiter’s squadron and we have both been busy because July and January are always busy for them. I spend my scant spare time making documents and graphics, or texting other squadron spouses, or emailing with the chain of command. Right now I can only really work during nap time and late at night. When Kid Jupiter’s fascination with electrical outlets wanes I might be able to do some of my tasks while he’s awake – but not yet.
For today’s LadyJupiter.com blog talk…
I regret to inform you that I haven’t made any new posts or even posted any new updates! I’ll have time for blogging again when my volunteer work calms down. I am overdue to share a photo of my closet, but I think I’ll just omit this month’s closet update photo because if I don’t have time to share an annotated photo, I surely haven’t had the time to even move clothes out of said closet.
I did make an attempt to practically give away a bundle of leggings. It was on a Buy/Sell/Trade (BST) thread of a local Facebook group, and as usual I hoped for a quick easy sale. I offered the stack of about eight leggings for five dollars and got a few queries. The first person asked (only hours after I posted them) if they were still available. This is when I felt the familiar feeling that I get with internet BST groups – it’s a mix of annoyance and dread. Then I asked her a question…that she didn’t answer, so I informed her that I would be at her nearest Starbucks at 3pm wearing pink shoes. She later tells me that she can’t meet me, and the apathy for trying to sell things online set in again. I’ve already mostly abandoned Poshmark too for the record, so I’m just going to send a bag to ThredUP and see if I get paid $.80 an item again.
If you have more patience than I do for online sales, I recommend the same thing that I do to make sudden cancellations pleasant. Instead of chatting back and forth about when and wear to meet, tell the potential buyer that you’ll be somewhere specific and wearing something distinctive. I call these Office Hours and prefer to have them in coffee shops. Before Kid Jupiter was in this world I liked my public Office Hours because I could plan on writing or editing for an hour, and maybe making a few dollars on the side. I usually kept all of the pending sale items in my trunk, and only agreed to meet one person at a time. If all of the potential buyers flaked out, I could easily swing by Goodwill or my nearest charity thrift shop on my way home. But now I don’t have time for any of that and I absolutely will not bend when selling anything super cheap. I’ll probably be nice and flexible again, but until then, nope.
And now for my most recent domestic diversion
I have been going down a vitamin and supplement rabbit hole. This is something that I do every few years, and it’s amazing to see what I find. This past week I have been searching the internet for my perfect green drink powder, plus reading about new anti-aging research, and general health care things. I’m interested in green drink powders because I like the efficiency of drinking my greens then having a normal dinner, I like anti-aging research because I miss getting carded outside of airports, and I like general health care things.
So far I have bought two green drink powders, but only tried one. The one I have used is the more expensive, costing about $3 per serving. If it had protein it would be classified as a meal replacement, but I am happy that it isn’t. The other green powder is about $1 per serving and has significantly fewer vitamins and minerals. I’ll have some of that one this weekend, and try to take some photos of the nutrition labels so I can compare the details away from the pantry too. My anti-aging research has prompted me to supplement collagen again. Not as a protein source, but to simply benefit my joints and skin. The one I bought and have been enjoying is primarily MCT oil powder that also has collagen and some prebiotic fiber. That’s something else I’m into – live probiotics and prebiotic fiber. I like the MCT oil, but when my jar is empty I’m going to buy a different collagen powder with more types of collagen, then just add a spoon of coconut oil and drop MCT all together. I also like antioxidant boosts, so I’ve been adding a quarter teaspoon of spirulina, raw cacao, or matcha powder into my food or drink. I like to buy antioxidant powders one or two at a time, but really wish that I could get smaller quantities, like two ounces instead of minimum sixteen ounces. Some antioxidant boosts are available in small sizes, but not all. Luckily we’re not moving for at least another year, so I have time to chip away at my current supplement stack. I already can’t wait to buy my next round of green drink, collagen, probiotics, and antioxidants.
Oh – this rabbit hole has also included listening to some other podcasters like Ben Greenfield and Dave Asbury. I’ll never be a biohacker like them, but I like hearing what sort of things they are subjecting themselves to. Meanwhile, if you want to know what a lightly biohacker stay at home mom gets up to – just keep your eyes on LadyJupiter.com, I want to put up a post about my current stack that details my supplement and light routines. I expect my low key biohacking habits to change slightly every six months or so. That’s just a random estimate – there are too many factors to make a more educated guess.
And that’s it for today’s show!
Show notes and transcript will be available in a few days on LadyJupiter.com/podcast – scroll down to the link for Episode Fourteen: Office Hours & Biohacking. If you liked today’s content – share it with a friend! I already think you have good taste, so I trust that your friends aren’t half bad either. Lady Jupiter Podcast can easily be found on Apple Podcasts (formerly called iTunes), also Stitcher, Spotify, Spreaker, and more. I’m still waiting on Pandora to approve my feed, but I am patient and not in any particular hurry.
I’ll be back next week, so until then – definitely sauté your green beans in coconut oil because it’s delicious, and otherwise be good to yourself. Bye!
